Students domiciled outside the European Union are welcome at Bishopsland. Places are offered following an interview and subject to satisfactory references. For further information on the course see the Information for potential members pages.

Qualifications Usually Required:

BA degree in silversmithing or jewellery or an allied subject from a UK university or an equivalent institution overseas. Reasonable fluency in English

Visa requirements

To study at Bishopsland you will need a student visa. Once a place has been offered, we can help with visa formalities. Bishopsland is registered with the Department for Education and Skills as an education provider, registration no 20303

Visa Status

Overseas residents have the status of students while taking part in the Bishopsland course. Home Office regulations allow students up to 15 hours paid work per week. Bishopsland students can take part in selling events during their course at Bishopsland, and are encouraged to do so, but sales are limited to such as are appropriate for the course.

Accommodation

Accommodation is provided on the site and consists of your own bedroom and a shared kitchen. Some private accommodation is also available.

Cost

The workshop fees, which cover teaching and exhibitions are charged separately from the rent for accommodation. Charges for 2005/6 are:

Workshop fees £84 per week. Accommodation £84 per week for shared facilities or £99 per week for the one person self-contained flats. Council Tax is payable in addition.

A discounted rate is available for workshop fees for UK and EU students, for whom bursaries are occasionally also available. Housing Benefit is not applicable to overseas students

Michiyo Tsuzaki, jeweller, was at Bishopsland 2002/3, and after a highly successful Degree Show at the RCA is now completing her MA degree.
Yoriko Mitsuhashi, 2003/4, also a jeweller, went up to the RCA in October 2004
Shung-Cheng Ho, 2003/4 is a silversmith and is now taking
an MA at London Metropolitan.
Yeung Cheuk Fun (Hugo) silversmith and jeweller, and Li-Sheng (Lisa) jeweller and box-maker, 2004/5.
