Sales Sales are the most obvious measure of your success but they can be misleading. For instance, you can't do much selling if you are concentrating on your MA application, equally if you are so busy getting out current sales that you have no time to develop new ideas, your sales may be good today but fall off tomorrow. Also, jewellers find it much easier to get going than silversmiths. However, as a guide, you should aim for:- a) Sales of £2500 gross b) Get your
work accepted in new galleries. c) Obtain
substantial commissions during the year. Commissions To be familiar with the P&O Makower Trust commissioning contract, amended if you wish, and be able to use it with confidence when talking to a client. Photography To be able to take your own images. Bishopsland standard: not to need a professional to present your work. (You will still need help with magazines or major exhibition catalogues). Batch Production Design and produce one item either of jewellery or small metalwork that can reasonably be relied on as a sales stand-by of proven acceptability and price. Be sufficiently confident of it, that you are prepared to keep up to 12 pieces always in stock. To end the year with sufficient stock both in hand and at galleries to form the basis of continuing success. Bishopsland
